Mic Tap…Mic Tap…I would like to introduce Brooke Garrett an inspiring model, who is as stunning as she is sweet. I recently had the pleasure of working with Brooke to update her modeling portfolio, although, her natural beauty and confidence in front of the camera made my job easy! Brooke & I had an absolute blast at her session and I can’t wait to work with this gem of a human again! So let’s get to know Brooke & find out a little more about our shoot.
Photographer Tip- For your headshot you will want to have clean, no make up, hydrated skin. I suggest a basic black outfit that will show off your figure but does not take away from YOU, avoid patterns. Modeling headshots should show off your beautiful natural features, potential designers want to see the canvas they will start with. This is also why there is no editing done to these headshots, except to brighten the lighting. So, yes, Brooke is that beautiful without make up!
OK, back to getting to know Brooke…
Where are you from?
I grew up in Alabama but I moved to Buena Vista, Colorado when I was 16, where I graduated high school. I am the fourth generation in BV and it is such a beautiful place- although I do miss being close to the beach!
What was your shoot like with Kristin?
My shoot with Kristin was amazing! I was a little nervous at first because I have taken some time off from modeling to get my degree but within the first few clicks of the camera, Kristin was able to coax me right back into my element. Even before the shoot she was preparing for our shoot really making sure she understand what kind of photos I wanted for my portfolio, which really made me feel like I was in good hands. I was really comfortable for our shoot, trying a lot of new ideas on the spot, she was so flexible & helpful with all of the poses. It was a lot of fun, and I felt like I was taken seriously.
How long have you been modeling and what are your career goals for the next year?
I have been modeling since I was 12 years old. For the next year, my goal is to be signed by a modeling agency in Denver, Colorado. With this, I could walk runway shows, showcase new designers, take part in photoshoots, and work alongside amazing talent within the industry. I hopefully will have the opportunity to walk in Denver Fashion Week which showcases some of the talents from the Western market.
Why would you suggest working with Kristin?
I would suggest working with Kristin because she makes you feel like the shoot is all yours. She truly takes care of you from start to finish. Not to mention that she is your biggest hype woman, constantly giving you the confidence to have an amazing shoot. The photos from the shoot exceeded my expectations. My favorite thing about Kristin’s photography is the amazing lighting and the clarity, clear and detailed.
Kristin listens to her customer’s wants and needs, I really wanted to display some of the more prominent features, such as my eyes, nose, and dimple chin, and Kristin did such an amazing job doing this. For my portfolio, I needed a diverse amount of photos and for each outfit, Kristin was able to encompass precisely what I was looking for. I am so happy with my pictures and cannot wait to share them with others.
What other activities do you enjoy outside of modeling? What are you passionate about?
Outside of modeling, I love to travel, spend time with my family/friends, go to rodeos, and do anything involving water (surfing, fishing, boating, etc).
Who is your favorite fashion designer? Era?
My favorite fashion designer is Coco Chanel. I love this designer because of the timeless, classy looks that are shown every season in fashion weeks. For me, this brand has many of the style points that I like- classy, French, fresh while still timeless, and luxurious. The look of a little black dress, which you can see in our photoshoot, is something that Chanel is well known for. I hope one day to visit the original location in Paris, France. My favorite era was in the 90s when the designs encapsulated short skirts, classic pastel colors, and a major Barbie vibe.
What would you say to someone considering jumping into modeling?
I would say that it is very important to know what makes you, you. Focus on your uniqueness and confidence, it will set you apart from everyone else so self-love, although cliché, is your most powerful tool. Oh and for sure reach out to Kristin so she can be your hype woman and help you build your portfolio.
